Gerriet K. Sharma

Gerriet K. Sharma is a Berlin-based composer, media artist, and researcher of spatial practices. For over 20 years, he has been working with the spatial organization of sound in Ambisonic and Wave Field Synthesis systems, as well as creating three-dimensional, sculptural sound forms. He studied media art at KHM in Cologne and composition and computer music at the University of Music in Graz, where he completed his doctoral dissertation “Composing with Sculptural Sound Phenomena in Computer Music” (2016). His works have been presented at numerous festivals and conferences, including Darmstädter Ferienkurse, Music Biennale Zagreb, New York Electronic Music Festival, Kontakte, Wiener Festwochen, and Berlin Art Week. He is the recipient of multiple awards, including the German Sound Art Award (2010). Sharma is a co-creator and researcher of the OSIL project focused on the icosahedral loudspeaker (IKO). He served as a DAAD Visiting Professor at TU Berlin and as a Visiting Professor of Experimental Sound and Space at HfG/ZKM Karlsruhe (2022–24). He is the author of numerous publications, including the book “Aural Sculpturality” (ZKM, 2019). He is also a co-founder of the Lab for Spatial Aesthetics in Sound (spæs) and the initiator of the Spatial Aesthetics and Artificial Environments research group within SAR..
