Łódź-łza
“Łódź-łza” is an interdisciplinary performative activity that took place at the New Media Laboratory ‘Tonarium’ in Katowice, located in the building of the Academy of Fine Arts. The event combined philosophical dialogue, music, visuals and installation to create a deeply moving reflection on the plight of refugees and issues of solidarity and hospitality.
The main axis of the performance was based on a letter correspondence between Krzysztof Czyżewski and Tadeusz Sławek, intellectuals who have been working for years on migration issues, the ethos of hospitality and the ethics of solidarity. Inspired by the true story of the boat from Lampedusa – a symbol of the refugees’ desperate journey – the authors transferred this narrative into the artistic sphere, emphasizing both the drama of the situation and its universal dimension of human fate. The boat, which carried sixteen people from Africa to the Italian island, was brought to Poland thanks to the initiative of Jaroslaw Mikolajewski and transformed by the Signum Foundation into a mobile monument to refugees.
